“Dawn on the Farm” ”11x14 ” Original Pastel Painting by Colorado Artist Margretta S. Perry

“Dawn on the Farm”
11"x14 ”
Original Pastel Painting by Colorado Artist Margretta S. Perry
SOLD

This painting is of a barn located in Louisville, Colorado. I happened across this location when I was just driving and looking. I really liked the three trees in front with the barn and other outbuildings and silos behind. I started with a bright orange pastel as the base color and brushed it with alcohol to keep it from mixing into the complementary colors and greying them down. You can see the orange coming through in places which gives it a warm color harmony throughout. Although I saw the barn in the afternoon when taking photos, I wanted to capture a warm, early morning glow coming in from behind. I remember those early, frosty mornings as a child and wanted to share that vision with you.

I used Wallis sanded paper as the ground and a mix of soft pastels.

“First Snow” 11”x14” Original Pastel Painting by Colorado Artist Margretta S. Perry

Original Pastel Painting by Colorado Artist Margretta S. Perry
$250.00 matted & framed + shipping

Our first snow this year in the Front Range of Colorado was a beauty! I had to meet some people early in the morning, so as I drove, all I wanted to do was to stop and take pictures. When I arrived at my destination I had time to spare, so I walked around the neighborhood snapping away. It was an overcast morning, the light was low; there had been no wind, so the snow was sticking to everything. It was nearly monochromatic and a challenge to paint. I started it on a hot pink-toned ground on Wallis sanded paper, and you can see the rosy color showing through, giving it a color harmony throughout. This painting is matted and framed, ready for hanging. It is being shown at the Broomfield Auditorium and is available for sale there until the end of January 2013.

PRIVATE COLLECTION
These children were amazing! They were playing the marimba so well, I could hardly believe they were such young children. I would guess about 7 & 8 years old perhaps…and standing on a bench so they could reach. The sun and shade was lovely and a nice backdrop for the musicians. This photo was taken in Cabo San Lucas a couple of years ago.
I used Wallis sanded paper as the ground and a mix of soft pastels.

PRIVATE COLLECTION

This little painting is part of a series of paintings of sunflowers. After visiting the Vincent Van Gogh exhibit at the Denver Art Museum, I thought it might be interesting to try my own sunflowers. I was disappointed not to see Van Gogh’s rendition, but have always loved his famous painting and decided to give the flowers a try. I used Wallis sanded paper as the ground and a mix of soft pastels.
